A Celebration of Rock, Blues and Local Treasures!

The 2019 Charlottetown Festival will include the 55th season of the international sensation Anne of Green Gables-The Musical™; the phenomenal rock-opera Kronborg – The Hamlet Rock Musical, Spinning Yarns and Mamma Mia.

KRONBURG – THE HAMLET ROCK MUSICAL
June 21 – July 20, 2019 (Plays selected dates) | Homburg Theatre | 1:00pm & 8:00pm
A ghostly visitor with a secret; a son devastated by loss; a deadly sword duel – and the most famous question in all of drama (“To be or not to be…”) These are just some of the reasons why Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy turned musical will hold you spellbound. Add in a thrilling rock opera score, a cast of 28 stellar Canadian actors, and a full orchestra, and you have all the makings of an intoxicating musical experience.

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES – THE MUSICAL
June 24 – September 28, 2019 (Plays selected dates) | Homburg Theatre | 1:00pm & 7:30pm
The Charlottetown Festival’s crown jewel musical returns for its 55th consecutive summer, a testament to the global appeal of “a classic inspired by a classic”. This is the enduring story of an orphan girl who came from away and changed the Island forever. Based on L.M. Montgomery’s beloved novel, the musical adaptation of the story of an imaginative red-haired orphan searching for belonging is guaranteed to tug at heartstrings and tickle funny bones.  Having played to over two million people, this musical is a “must see” for island visitors.

MAMMA MIA
August 8 – September 28, 2019 (Plays selected dates) | Homburg Theatre | 1:00 pm & 8:00pm
A mother, a daughter, three possible dads; and a trip down the aisle you’ll never forget! Back to the Festival by popular demand, it’s Mamma Mia! This sunny ABBA-driven tale follows Donna, an independent, single mother who owns a small hotel on a Greek island. She is about to let go of Sophie, the spirited daughter she has raised alone. For Sophie’s wedding, Donna has invited her two lifelong best friends – practical and no-nonsense Rosie, and wealthy, multi-divorcée Tanya – from her one-time backing band, Donna and the Dynamos; however, after reading her mother’s diary, Sophie secretly invites three guests of her own. On a quest to find the identity of her father to walk her down the aisle, she brings back three men from Donna’s past to the Greek paradise they last visited two decades ago. Over 24 chaotic, magical hours, new love will bloom and old romances will be rekindled on this lush island full of possibilities!

SPINNING YARNS
July 15 – September 28, 2019 (Plays selected dates) | The Mack | 8:00pm
Newfoundland in the early ‘80s: a world of raucous adventures, death-defying escapades, and dubious childcare! This hilarious evening of story and song is a fictionalized biography written and performed by Festival favourite, Stephen Guy-McGrath (‘Bill’ in Mamma Mia!; Sam Phillips’ in Million Dollar Quartet; ‘René’ in Evangeline). Hear the trials and tribulations of growing up in a family that pulls no punches and takes no guff; seen through the eyes of a boy with an overactive imagination and a desperate desire to “fit in”. Through it all shines a fierce love of family and a boundless longing for home.
