Explore the Outdoors

The drop in temperatures, the crisp autumn air, and the majestic nature and scenery in New Brunswick offer the perfect backdrop for your fall escape. New Brunswick has a lot to offer for those that simply can’t stay inside on a beautiful fall day. From amazing adventures to relaxed strolls through the many parks and trails, New Brunswick has it all to make autumn your favourite season of the year.

  • Fundy Trail Parkway, located on the Bay of Fundy, is the perfect place to experience all the natural, unspoiled beauty of the bay and the highest tides on the planet. There are many options of trails for all levels, or you can choose to take a scenic drive if that’s more your thing.

  • Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park is another option for nature-lovers to get immersed in the beauty of the Acadian region. There you will find twenty free-standing sea stacks peppered along two kilometres of shoreline; no Atlantic Canadian vacation is complete without experiencing these icons.

Hopewell Rocks

  • Kouchibouguac National Park is in Saint-Louis-de-Kent and is a majestic place to experience the sea, the land, and the sky. The hiking and biking trails are in loops, and you’ll get to see the beautiful colours along the way.

  • Irishtown Nature Park is a gem located just north of Moncton. The 890-hectare park is conveniently located and offers a great variety of activities and fall foliage sightseeing!

Irishtown Nature Park

There are so many other parks and adventures waiting for you around the Acadian coast that one day just isn’t enough to see it all. Stay the night at one of our Rodd hotels in the province – Rodd Miramichi River and Rodd Moncton – to get ready for a whole day of new adventures. Our guest service agents can help you plan your adventure, and they also give great tips on where to eat, shop, and venture.

Check our packages and specials and don’t miss a memorable fall experience in New Brunswick.

Catch some Fish

No matter if you’re an expert or new to sport fishing – New Brunswick has many rivers, ponds and lakes stocked with a great variety of fish to cater to every level of expertise. During fall, fishing in the province’s waters becomes a spectacle; you can watch first-hand as the warm colours of the foliage come to life and experience the nature around you like never before.

Our hotel in Miramichi offers great views and easy access to the Miramichi River, which offers salmon, trout and striped bass in its waters. If you want to try something even more exciting, Miramichi offers a world-class fly-fishing experience so you can really connect to nature.

Fishing in Miramichi is allowed for both residents and non-residents, but we recommend you check the rules and conditions before venturing into the water. One day might not be enough to catch all the fish you want or to get that great Atlantic Salmon. Stay with us at Rodd Miramichi River and spend a few days fishing!

Festivals & More Festivals

If you think summer was brimming with events, wait until you see how many festivals New Brunswick has prepared for you during fall! There’s a festival made for you, from laid-back art festivals in the city to live music and energetic crowds. Here is a sample of what you can expect:

  • Saint-Antoine Fall Colors Festival, from September 17 to 25, in Saint-Antoine, is a celebration of the beautiful warm colours of the season, featuring an antique car show and parade, volunteer firefighters’ competition, farmers market, family run & activities, and more.

  • Medavie Moncton Running Festival, starting September 10 in Moncton. Get your running shoes ready for this thrilling festival featuring the Resurgo Marathon and 5K Championships!

Take in the Coastal Scenery

Yarmouth and Acadian Shores are a big hit during summer, but it’s mesmerizing during fall. When the warm reds, oranges and yellows start to show and the temperatures start to drop, it’s the perfect opportunity to get outdoors to experience the wonderful scenery firsthand. The region has options for adventurous, explorer travelers to those that take their time to appreciate all the details.

  • Visit the Cape Forchu Lighthouse. Who said lighthouses are a summer thing? Climb the lighthouse and you can take in all the majestic coastal landscape and beautiful fall scenery.

  • Fall experiences on the water more your thing? Take a tour of the Tusket Islands and sample the view, food and heritage all at once.
  • Or try kayaking at Ellenwood Lake Provincial Park if you’re on the adventurous side.
  • Need something for all ages? Visit the Sandford Drawbridge, the smallest drawbridge in the world.

You can stay close to the city and take a stroll through Frost Park, located right across from our hotel.

While you wander through the autumn beauty, stay with us at the Rodd Grand Yarmouth and make your fall trip as comfortable and convenient as you can. We are always offering specials and packages so you can enjoy your visit to Yarmouth and the Acadian Shores to the fullest.

Experience Stargazing

Did you know that the Yarmouth & Acadian Shores offer some of the darkest and clearest skies in North America? Perfect conditions for stargazing – it’s no wonder that the region was designated the first Starlight Reserve in North America by The International Starlight Foundation!

Wondering how to experience it all? Here are some of the best opportunities to count stars:

  • The Deep Sky Eye Observatory, located just under 25 minutes from Rodd Grand Yarmouth, offers guided tours and the perfect environment to stargaze. Featuring an outdoor viewing platform and an indoor dome that houses a gigantic telescope, stargazing under the Yarmouth sky at the observatory is an unparalleled experience.

  • Wedgeport Nature Trail, just 20 minutes from Yarmouth, is another special place to look at our stars. Located within the only UNESCO Starlight tourist-certified area in North America, the trail offers a viewing platform and is free of charge.

Can’t wait to experience it all? Check our specials and packages and book your stay at Rodd Grand Yarmouth. We’d love to hear how many stars you were able to count.

Arts, Crafts & Culture

Yarmouth and nearby cities and towns have no shortage of charm. The Maritime heritage combined with the creativity and talent of its locals creates a blooming place for the arts & crafts. It’s no wonder one of Canadian’s favourite artists, Maud Lewis, was born in Yarmouth.

During fall, so many festivals, exhibitions and fairs are happening that we can’t even list them all, but here are some unmissable opportunities for you to appreciate all forms of entertainment and culture:

  • Colouring and Poetry Exhibit, on August 29th in Yarmouth, features colouring and poetry writing opportunities for all ages.
  • Harvest Festival, happening on September 15th in Pubnico, celebrates all the season crops in delicious ways.
  • Welcome Fall Craft and Vendor Fair, on September 17th in Yarmouth, features amazing local craft and vendor specials!
  • Shag Harbour UFO Expo, from October 1–2 in Yarmouth, is not your ordinary expo! UFO experts and eyewitnesses will get together to share their experiences, theories, and research about unidentified flying objects.
  • Starlight Runway Run, on October 1, is a night race in Yarmouth. Join us to run under the bright stars of our region!
  • 10th Annual Fabulous Fall Craft Fair, happening at our own Rodd Grand Yarmouth on October 22, features all things fall from amazing local vendors!

And don’t forget to visit local stores and galleries open year-round showcasing the best arts & crafts of the region! We recommend Seahags & Scallywags and Tooie’s Country Store.

Seahags & Scallywags

If you don’t want to miss a thing this fall, stay with us at Rodd Grand Yarmouth hotel. We’re conveniently located just minutes from all there is to do in the region!

Hit the Green

Some say fall is the best season for golfing. The summer heat has taken a break, the foliage boasts stunning colours, and there’s still plenty of daylight to enjoy. PEI might be the smallest province, but we have the most golf courses in Canada per capita.

When you stay at one of our two Island resorts, you have easy access to three of PEI’s finest golf courses:

  • The Links at Crowbush Cove is located at Rodd Crowbush Golf & Beach Resort, overlooking the north shore dunes. This course is known for its undulating fairways, coastal wind, pot bunkers and water holes, which provide an exciting experience only PEI can offer.

The Links at Crowbush Cove

  • Brudenell River Golf Course, recognized as one of the most popular courses on the Island, offers six par 3′s, six par 4′s and six par 5′s alongside pristine greens, gardens, lakes, and ponds. Located at our river resort, Rodd Brudenell, this course is full of fun challenges, and great Eastern PEI scenery.

  • Dundarave Golf Course, also located at Rodd Brudenell River Resort, is a red sandstone 18-hole championship golf course that blends itself perfectly with the tranquil setting of the Brudenell river. It’s guaranteed to give you an unforgettable golfing experience, especially during the fall season.

Dundarave Golf Course

No need for your season to end – there’s still time to fit in a round or two at one of our courses located at Rodd Crowbush and Rodd Brudenell River resorts. Book your golf getaway before the season ends and take advantage of our special golf packages, such as the 72 Hour Challenge or the Fall Fever package.

Take in the Scenery

There is no doubt when Anne of Green Gables said that she was glad she lived “in a world where there are Octobers,” she was inspired by the fall beauty on Prince Edward Island. There’s no better way to experience the island than to take the less travelled road – by that we mean the small, sometimes red-sanded, backroads… All the vibrant warm colours and the crisp fall air will inspire you just as it inspired our famous red-headed character.

And you can enjoy all the PEI colours while staying in our capital, Charlottetown. Take the road east to see enjoy coastal views, or the road west to overlook the incredible fields and the Confederation bridge. Why not explore one of our many trails on foot – we recommend the Island Walk, the Confederation Trail or Bonshaw Hills Trail.

Start planning your getaway today with our specials and packages, and stay with us on either Rodd Royalty, conveniently located near shopping and with quick access to head to every part of the Island, or at Rodd Charlottetown, a historic hotel in the vibrant downtown core offering breathtaking fall views from the rooftop patio.

Culinary Experiences

There’s more than just lobster rolls and potatoes when it comes to PEI culinary, and fall is the best season to taste it all. The cozy, comfortable meals of autumn, the harvest goods, and the sophisticated work of our many local and international chefs make the Island a must for all the foodies out there.

It’s no wonder that during these months, the Island is busy with many culinary festivals and events.

  • PEI International Shellfish Festival, starting September 15th, features a wide range of attractions from chowder competitions and chef challenges to kitchen parties and live music, and a lot of great local food.

PEI Shellfish Festival

  • Fall Flavours Festival, starting in September, encompasses different culinary and entertainment events across the Island. From feasts and lobster dinners to deep fishing and live local music, your tastebuds will be thanking you.

  • Farm Day in The City, on October 2nd, Charlottetown’s busy Queen Street is transformed into a paradise for the local food and produce lovers. Delight in all the straight-from-the-farm goodies, enjoy good music, watch a pie-eating contest, and even pet some of the cutest farm animals.

When you stay with us, you can experience PEI culinary without ever leaving the property. Join us at Chambers Restaurant at Rodd Charlottetown for classic favourites, visit Club 19 at Rodd Brudenell and the Clubhouse on the Links at Rodd Crowbush for pub-style food and flavours, or experience culinary creations at David’s Restaurant, located at Rodd Crowbush.
